It was only a couple of years ago that our lives crossed at a Tuesday night jam session in Tattingstone. I had gone along to watch, checking it out with a view to joining in the following month. There were around a dozen pickers. I recognized some faces but others like Rex I did not. I could see or should I say hear straight away that the session was structured and well organized but it was not immediately obvious to me how this was happening or who was running the session. I eventually worked out that it was the chap with the guitar and the great vocals that was holding it all together. I will remember Rex for the way he always maintained his calm, quiet and patient demean. It was a great treat for me to be able to play with him at the sessions he ran and the occasional chats we were able to have during breaks in the music. Trevor Simpson
